Terschelling

Our German friends and neighbors visit the same island every year and always talk so highly of it, so we decided to check it out for ourselves. After a 3 hour car ride and a 2 hour ferry ride, we arrived at the island of Terschelling off the coast of the Netherlands and in the North Sea. At first we felt like we were in Block Island as everyone was riding around on their bicycles, but as you drove further into the island and saw the sheep and horses grazing in pastures beside the ocean, it reminded us a bit of Normandy. The beaches were gorgeous, and I don't think I have ever felt softer sand in my life. It was really fun to take a trip as a "local" rather than a tourist.

The Dutch love their bicycles and they also love their pets. This was the first trip in three years that Casey was able to join us on vacation. She was allowed in every restaurant and on every beach; to say that she enjoyed herself is an understatement.

It was a great way to spend a few days as a family.........
 Our little apartment.

Complete with a bed for Casey.

The first few days were a little cloudy and rainy, but we had a lot of fun playing at the pool.

 Jacob loved the water slide.

We still ventured out to the beach...

And Casey had a lot of fun running around in the sand.

View of the island with a horse and carriage riding by.
Bria liked the chair at the Elvis beach bar.

The whole family enjoying a nice dinner.
This is the "Cafe Max" doggie bar with water tap that they had out front.

Bill had some large shrimp for dinner.
Post dinner stroll on the beach.

Watching the kite surfers the next morning.

We have always loved the playgrounds around Europe. Here's an example of one-
This is what Daddy is doing......
And this is what the kids are doing.

"Yep, Casey and I have things under control."

This was our mode of transport during the visit...

The weather was perfect our last day and we were able to spend some time at the beautiful beach.

And if you think the kids had fun at the beach, you should have seen Casey...

On the ferry ride home...

 Goodbye Terschelling!
